Vegan Espresso Protein Shake

As a vegan I often rely on protein shakes and smoothies to get some protein in my diet when I’m on the go. I happen to love and enjoy the brand Svelte, but especially because they offer a Cappuccino flavor. Also, because each flavor greets you with a comment such as, “enjoy yourself.” Yes, yes I will, Svelte.

However, at roughly $3.00 a carton, Svelte isn’t quite compatible with my college student budget on a daily basis, which is why I took matters into my own hands and created my own vegan version that is very friendly on the wallet.

Vegan Espresso Protein Shake
Makes 1 serving

1 cup chilled unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or any other non-dairy milk alternative)
1 cup chilled filtered water (for a thicker shake, you can use two cups of non-dairy milk instead of just one)
1 scoop chocolate soy protein powder (or hemp, brown rice, pea, etc.)
1 scoop Amazing Grass Cocoa powder
1 shot chilled espresso

Dump all of your ingredients into a blender. I use my Viatamix for this. Blend for 30 seconds or until the powders have been combined with the liquids. Pour into a glass and add a pretty straw for aesthetic appeal. I wouldn’t suggest trying to mix the ingredients with a spoon in place of blending. The powders get pretty clumpy, and don’t mix into the liquids very well.

And there you have it. A protein, nutrient packed shake that I believe tastes very close to the luscious Svelte shakes. Enjoy.
